Penn State Welcomes St. Bonaventure Sunday Afternoon

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State women's basketball teams hosts St. Bonaventure Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Lady Lions' final game before a brief one-week break for final exams in non-conference action at the Bryce Jordan Center.

OPENING TIPS

  • Penn State continues its five-game homestand Sunday afternoon when the Lady Lions host St. Bonaventure before a brief break for final exams.
  • The game against the Bonnies will serve as the penultimate non-conference game for the 5-4 Lady Lions.
  • Penn State has five wins on the young season and the Lady Lions have erased at least a nine-point deficit in four of those five wins.

IF PENN STATE BEATS ST. BONAVENTURE

SCOUTING THE BONNIES

  • The Bonnies are 3-6 on the season and will come to State College fresh off a 74-58 home win over Siena Friday night that snapped a five-game losing streak.
  • St. Bonaventure's other two wins this season came in the season opener against Niagara (76-48) and a triple-overtime thriller over Canisius (100-94) on Nov. 13.
  • Two Bonnies are averaging double-digit points, led by Asianae Johnson's 11.8 points per game. McKenna Maycock has chipped in 10.7 ppg, while three other Bonnies are averaging more than 8.0 per contest.

 
AGAINST ST. BONAVENTURE

  • Penn State is 10-3 all-time against the Bonnies, but has lost the last three meetings.
  • The Lady Lions held a 12-point halftime lead in last season's meeting in Olean, N.Y., but the Bonnies staged a comeback with a strong second half.
  • A 17-3 spurt for the Bonnies gave the home team their first lead of the contest, 45-43, with 3:40 to play in the third quarter and the two teams would trade the lead six more times in the contest. In the end, the Lady Lions (8-3) had three shots with under 10 seconds remaining, but all three caromed off the rim and the Bonnies were able to hold on for the victory.
  • Teniya Page paced Penn State with 18 points on 7-of-17 shooting from the field. Page was 3-of-3 from the free throw line, adding six rebounds, four assists and three steals in the game.

 
SENIORS' SHINING MOMENTS

  • The Lady Lions will be celebrating their five-member senior class in a unique way this season. Each senior will get their own "Senior Day" in addition to the cumulative Senior Day that will celebrate the class as a whole during the regular-season finale.
  • The senior being celebrated on each Senior Day will get to pick that game's honorary coach(es) in addition to having their family and friends in attendance.
  • The first Senior Day of the 2018-19 season comes Sunday against St. Bonaventure when the Lady Lions will honor Kayleigh Semion.
  • Semion has proven the value of hard work and dedication throughout her time at Penn State. Kayleigh began her career as a club basketball player and team manager before earning a roster spot during the 2017-18 season. A consummate teammate, Kayleigh has made an impact both on and off the court for the Lady Lions. She has seen action in five games this season, providing a crucial spark of the bench.

 
FOCUS ON THE FREE THROW LINE

  • The Lady Lions rank eighth in all of Division I (as of Dec. 6) with 142 made free throws on the season.
  • Penn State ranks 38th nationally with a 75.9 (142-for-187) free throw shooting percentage.
  • Sophomore Alisia Smith leads the Lady Lions with an 88.6 (31-for-35) free throw percentage.
