Men's Soccer to Host Seventh Annual Mack Brady Memorial Clinic Sunday

Medical Release Waiver

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State men's soccer team will once again pair up with the Brady family to host the Seventh Annual Mack Brady Memorial Soccer Clinic on Sunday, Jan. 6 from 2-3:30 p.m. in Holuba Hall on the University Park campus.

The clinic is free of charge and open to children 16 and under, but all participants are required to fill out and bring with them a release form in advance of the clinic.

Participants will also need to bring their own ball and are asked to bring shin guards, cleats and sneakers. Attendees in eighth grade and lower will receive a bracelet and two autographed soccer balls will be given away as "Mack's birthday presents."

Mack Brady has been an important part of the Penn State men's soccer program since the late 2000s when at the tender age of five he declared he wanted to someday be the Nittany Lions' goalie. Tragically and unfortunately, Brady's dreams were cut short as he passed away of a blood infection on Dec. 31, 2012, almost two weeks short of his ninth birthday.

The clinic was set up just weeks after his untimely passing, with the help of Penn State coaches as well as current players and alumni. It was meant to coincide with his birthday (Jan. 16) in order to give other Penn State soccer fans his age the chance to enjoy the game he loved with the team he loved.

"The Mack Brady Clinic is an event that holds a very special place in our program as one of our most important celebrations of each year," said head coach Jeff Cook. "Although I never had the pleasure of meeting Mack, I feel so fortunate that his legacy lives on through our Penn State men's soccer program. Getting to know Mack's family, hearing stories of his passion for family and friends, for Penn State and for goalkeeping, I have come to understand the remarkable young man that graced State College. We are very excited to host the clinic again this year – it's the perfect way to celebrate Mack and to connect our Nittany Lion soccer program with the Happy Valley community."

The spirit of Mack Brady lives on through this clinic as well as a special 'Mack Brady Match' which is played each year by Penn State men's soccer. In the 2018 Mack Brady Match, the Nittany Lions downed Ohio State, 3-1, in the conference opener.

A special memorial patch is worn on each home kit and money raised from the contest helps benefit the fund set up in his name. The Mack Brady Fund is an endowment for Nittany Lion goalkeepers to assist them with equipment, recruiting, scholarships and other needs. To date, more than $230,000 has been raised in Brady's honor for his favorite soccer program.
