Rankin, Adolfsson Bring In Weekly CHA Awards

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pennsylvania – Penn State women's hockey players Katie Rankin and Jessica Adolfsson were both recognized for their individual play this past week as College Hockey America weekly award recipients.

Rankin was named CHA Player of the Week and Adolfsson was named CHA Rookie of the Week after both had two-point games against then-No. 4 Cornell last Tuesday, Jan. 8 at Pegula Ice Arena.

Rankin, a junior, wins her first CHA Player of the Week award for her career after she netted a first period power-play goal against the Big Red. She added a secondary assist later in the game.

Rankin also won 50% of her faceoffs (11-22) and tied a season high with two blocked shots.

Her goal was her third power-play marker of the season, tied for the most on the Nittany Lions with Natalie Heising. Rankin now has four goals in 2018-19 to go with three assists for seven total points.

The freshman Adolfsson also had a goal and an assist in last Tuesday's game for her first career multi-point effort. Her second period goal on the power play gave Penn State the lead. She also added a primary assist on a later goal.

The goal was her first career score at Pegula Ice Arena. She now has four points (2G, 2A) in her last six games.

Rankin, Adolfsson, and the Nittany Lions will be back in action early next week Jan. 20-21 with a pair of CHA games against Lindenwood. Sunday's game starts at 2 p.m. and Monday's start will be at 3 p.m.

Monday's game marks the Nittany Lions' annual Skate For the Cure game to raise awareness for the PA Pink Zone in the fight against breast cancer. Fans will be granted free admission to the game if they are wearing pink.
