Penn State’s Madison Murtagh Claims B1G Freshman of the Week

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Penn State women's swimmer Madison Murtagh claimed the Big Ten's Freshman of the Week honor Wednesday afternoon after a winning performance in a double dual meet over the weekend.
 
The Nittany Lions split the double dual against Navy and North Carolina, and Murtagh came out strong taking first place in the 1000 freestyle for Penn State. She completed the race with a personal-best time of 10:02.38. The freshman also had a fourth-place finish in the 500 free with a time of 5:01.03.
 
Murtagh last took home freshman of the week in October after earning a pair of top-three finishes against No. 7 Virginia. For her collegiate debut, she competed in both the 100 and 500 free finishing both swims with times of 10:06.67 and 4:55.33, respectively.
 
Next for the Nittany Lions, Bloomsburg visits McCoy Natatorium this Saturday, Jan. 19. for Penn State's final home meet of the 2018-19 season. Competition kicks off at 12 p.m.
