UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – After a record-setting performance on the track last weekend at the Nittany Lion Challenge, Danae Rivers has garnered athlete of the week honors from the Big Ten and the U.S Track & Field Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA). Rivers is the first female Penn State student-athlete to garner USTFCCCA Athlete of the Week honors during the indoor season and now has been named Big Ten Indoor Track Athlete of the Week three times.

In her season-debut, Rivers, a junior, ran to a collegiate record time of 2:38.58 in the women's 1,000-meter run. The previous record of 2:40.79 was set by Kaela Edwards of Oklahoma State on Jan. 13, 2017. Along with her performance in the women's 1,000-meter run, Rivers anchored the Penn State women's 4x400-meter relay to a Big Ten-leading time of 3:40.85.

Rivers and the Nittany Lions head to Ann Arbor, Michigan, for the Simmons-Harvey Big Ten Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 19. The meet gets underway at 10 a.m. and will be televised from noon-3 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.
