UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State men's and women's fencing team finished their fourth dual meet series in Queens, N.Y. Both Penn State teams competed against Columbia, Harvard, Notre Dame, Ohio State and St. John's.
Elias Cole (Chappaqua, N.Y.) and Anton Piskovatskov (Houston, Texas) shined in the men's 14-13 loss to Harvard in the first round with their 3-0 shutout performance while Lodovica Bicego (Vicenza, Italy) and Jade Rowland (Princeton Junction, N.J.) helped lead the women to a 15-12 win over Harvard with their shutout performances.
In the second round, the women's fencing team picked up another win against Notre Dame, 17-10, and the men fell to the Fighting Irish, 15-12, despite the men's epee squad winning six of their nine bouts.
The men's foil team lost only one bout in the third round to help the men defeat St. John's, 18-9. The women's saber squad won seven of their bouts against St. John's to continue their win-streak with a 16-11 win over St. John's.
The men fell to the Columbia in the fourth round, 16-11, and the women were handed their first loss of the day falling to the Lions 15-12.
The Nittany Lions finished out the day by fencing Ohio State. The women fell to the Buckeyes, 15-12, while the men closed out the day with a 16-11 win over Ohio State.
Penn State will next be in action when select members of the women's fencing team will travel to Salt Lake City, Utah for the Women's Saber World Cup, which will start Friday, Jan. 25, and ends Sunday, Jan. 27.
