Brenneman, Heminger Receive Weekly CHA Awards

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pennsylvania – Another pair of Penn State women's hockey players have received weekly honors from College Hockey America this week.

Junior goaltender Jenna Brenneman and freshman defender Izzy Heminger have been named this week's CHA Goalie and Rookie of the Week, the second time the duo have won the awards at the same time this season.

It's the third time Brenneman has been named Goalie of the Week and the second Rookie of the Week award for Heminger. Heminger was also named CHA Rookie of the Month in November.

Brenneman allowed just one goal over two starts Sunday and Monday in a series sweep of CHA-opponent Lindenwood. She picked up her fourth shutout of the season in Sunday's 3-0 win with 22 saves while adding 13 more saves in Penn State's 2-1 win Monday.

Brenneman four shutouts are tied for the most in a single season in Penn State program history. Celine Whittlinger had four in the 2015-16 season.

Heminger was once again a noticeable presence on the ice in the Lindenwood series. She scored Penn State's first goal in Sunday's 3-0 win for her first career game-winning goal. The score also came on the power play, her second on the advantage this season. Heminger leads all CHA rookie defenseman with 10 points (4G, 6A) in 2018-19.

Heminger was also a key component of the Nittany Lions' defensive efforts which held Lindenwood to only one goal in the series. Penn State also outshot Lindenwood 84-36 in the two games.

This marks the fourth time a pair of Nittany Lions have received weekly awards in the same week:

  • Nov. 19: Brenneman and Heminger
  • Nov. 27: Breneman and Natalie Heising
  • Jan. 14: Jessica Adolfsson and Katie Rankin
  • Jan. 22: Brenneman and Heminger

Penn State returns to the ice this weekend with a conference road series at Syracuse Jan. 25-26. Game times are set for 7 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Saturday.
