S&D Earn Scholar All-America Honors

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State men's and women's swimming and diving teams earned recognition as College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America teams for the Fall 2018 semester, the organization announced Tuesday.

To be selected as a CSCAA Scholar All-America Team, programs must have achieved a grade point average of 3.00 or higher over the fall semester.

The Nittany Lion women combined for a 3.36 team grade point average for their 15th consecutive semester above a 3.0, while the men earned a 3.06 team GPA, surpassing 3.0 for a fifth-consecutive semester and for the eighth time in the last nine semesters.

In total, 713 teams, representing 460 institutions across college athletics achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the Fall 2018 semester. The Penn State men were one of seven Big Ten programs to earn the honor, while the women were one of 11.

Penn State will travel to Villanova to face the Wildcats next Friday, Feb. 1 at 4 p.m. at the Villanova swim complex.

A fundraiser was launched to support freshman women's swimmer Nikolette Nolte and her family for costs associated with her leukemia treatment. Any surplus funds will be donated to THON and the Jessie Rees Foundation to help others facing pediatric cancer. Donate at gopsu.info/nikistrong.
