ROSEMONT, Ill. – Junior goaltender Peyton Jones (Langhorne, Pa.) was named the Big Ten Third Star of the Week as announced by the league office Tuesday morning for his performance on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden leading Penn State to a 5-2 victory over Michigan.
Already the Penn State all-time leader in wins, Jones earned his 50th career win in the process improving to 10-7-2 on the year. Jones made 35 saves on 37 shots registering his 11th game this season with 30 or more saves.
Jones earns his third weekly honor this season all of which have been Third Star laurels. This also marks the seventh weekly award of his career.
During the first period of Saturday night's tilt, the junior stopped all 22 Michigan shots to set a new career-high for saves in a period. The 22 saves also tied Eamon McAdam's single-game program record for most saves in a period.
Penn State has this weekend off before returning to Pegula Ice Arena in two weeks' time to battle Minnesota in a pair of Big Ten Conference games on February 8-9. Puck drop each night is slated for 6 p.m. and both games will air live on the Big Ten Network.
