UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State men's golf team will open the 2019 spring schedule with the first of two events February before beginning tournament competition in March. The two events plus five tournaments, including two in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Penn State's own Rutherford Intercollegiate, and the 2019 Big Ten Conference Championships at the Philadelphia Cricket Club, comprise 2019 spring slate.
Penn State was originally scheduled to compete in a third event in February in the Athletic Director's Trophy vs. West Virginia last weekend, but travel delays prevented a timely arrival in Kissimmee, Florida, and the event was cancelled.
The Nittany Lions travel to the Sunshine State Friday-Saturday, Feb. 8-9 for the annual Big Ten Match Play Championship, at the Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast, Florida. All 14 teams compete in a single-elimination bracket with a total of six individual matches.
Penn State has kept the Mini Land Grant Trophy for three years after winning the Challenge at Champions titles over Michigan State. The Nittany Lions and Spartans will square off again in 2019 on Sunday, Feb. 24, at the Champions Golf Club in Houston, Texas.
March and April will find Penn State in familiar territory as the regular-season tournaments include the Colleton River Collegiate Invitational in Bluffton, S.C. (March 4-5), the Linger Longer Collegiate Invitational at Reynolds Lake Plantation Golf Club in Greensboro, Georgia (March 15-17), and Ohio State's Kepler Intercollegiate in Columbus, Ohio (April 19-20).
The Nittany Lions will look to defend their 2018 Rutherford Intercollegiate title April 13-14 during Penn State's Blue-White weekend. One of the top events in the Northeast, the 43rd annual event will feature a challenging field of Eastern teams and several squads from around the nation.
The 2019 Big Ten Conference Championships will be held Friday-Sunday, April 26-28, on the Wissahickon Course at the Philadelphia Cricket Club. The championship site will also play host to the 2020 U.S. Amateur Four Ball Championship.
