T&F Wraps Up Day Two at the Tiger Paw Invite

CLEMSON, S.C. -- The Penn State track & field team wrapped up the second day of competition Saturday at the Tiger Paw Invitational held at the Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex. Senior Morgan Shigo won the weight throw and season-best performances came in both the men's and women's 4x400-meter relays and in three individual races.
 
In the final events of the second day of competition, new combinations for the 4x400-meter relay teams led to season-best times. Keianna Allbury, Kiara Lester, Victoria Tachinski and Alexis Holmes ran a 3:36.62 for eighth place, clipping more than four seconds off the previous best this season. Chase Ebersole, Gary Ross, Rick Zink and Samuel Reiser posted the Nittany Lions' season-best time of 3:11.47 for the men.
 
Earlier in the day, senior Morgan Shigo and junior David Lucas went one-two in the weight throw. Shigo immediately took the lead in the event, but recorded his best distance of the day in his final attempt at 21.69m.
 
Freshman Alexis Holmes ran in the invitational section of the 200-meter dash and improved her season-best time by .04 seconds, clocking in at 23.79 in the race.
 
Sophomore Victoria Tachinski ran a 2:10.46 in the 800-meter run, bettering her season-best time from earlier this year. In the men's 800-meter run, junior William Ashenfelter improved his season best to 1:52.63.
 
Penn State will play host to the Penn State Tune-Up on Saturday, Feb. 16 at the Multi-Sport Facility & Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track in preparation for the Big Ten Indoor Championships Friday-Saturday, Feb. 22-23 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
