UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State Women's Lacrosse senior attacker Madison Carter was named the Brine/US Lacrosse Player of the Week by US Lacrosse Magazine on Monday. It is Carter's first career National Player of the Week honor.
The senior led No. 12 Penn State to a 13-7 win over No. 11 Towson on Saturday in Holuba Hall. The Nittany Lions scored 10 goals in the second half, including four goals by Carter.
Carter's first point of the game came on an assist to sophomore Sophia Triandafils with 8:45 left in the first half.
The Maryland native opened the scoring in the second half, tallying a goal in a man-up situation to tie the game at 4-4 with 26:15 left in the second half. That sparked a 6-1 run by the blue and white.
Carter found the net for the second time with 12:46 to go, extending PSU's lead to 7-5 and sent home another three minutes later to give the Nittany Lions a 9:08 advantage.
The senior's final goal of the day came on with 4:27 remaining, extending the Nittany Lion lead to 11-7.
Carter earned her 19th career game with five or more points. She raised her career total to 202 points, including 184 goals and 18 assists. She became the 15th player in program history to reach the 200-point mark. She shares 11th all-time at PSU with Mackenzie (2011-14) and Madison Cyr (2013-16). She is just one point away from tying Michele DeJuliis (1994-97) for 10th in program history.
The Nittany Lions, led by Head Coach Missy Doherty, are ranked 12th in the IWLCA Coaches Poll, No. 11 in the US/Nike Lacrosse Poll and No. 10 in the Inside Lacrosse Poll.
Penn State welcomes Lehigh on Saturday, February 16 for a 1 p.m. contest. It will mark the first regular season game played at Panzer Stadium.
Single-game tickets will be sold on the day of the game. Prices are $5 for adults and $3 for youth (ages 12 and under). Students will be able to get in free by showing their Penn State ID.
