Biro Named NCAA First Star of the Week

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Junior Brandon Biro (Sherwood Park, Alberta) has been named the NCAA First Star of the Week as announced Tuesday afternoon following his five-point performance during a weekend sweep over Minnesota.

Biro becomes just the second Nittany Lion in program history to earn an NCAA weekly honor joining classmate Nikita Pavlychev (Yaroslavl, Russia) who also earned NCAA First Star laurels on November 13, 2018. The junior adds this accolade to a pair of Big Ten Star of the Week nods from earlier this season.

Biro tied teammate Chase Berger (St. Louis, Mo.) for the national lead with five points last weekend securing his ninth and 10th multi-point games of the year in the process. The junior scored once while adding a pair of primary assists during a 7-2 rout on Friday night before adding another helper along with the eventual game-winning goal to complete the sweep on Saturday.

The alternate captain has already equaled each of his career-highs set last season as a sophomore with nine goals and 22 assists for 31 points. The junior's 22 assists tie for 11th nationally and fourth in the Big Ten while his 31 points are good for ninth in the conference.

Following his five-point weekend, Biro has surpassed Casey Bailey and now sits in sixth on the Penn State all-time scoring list with 82 points.

Penn State is currently fourth in the Big Ten standings, just four points out of second, and will travel to East Lansing for another crucial conference series this weekend against Michigan State with the puck dropping at 7 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday evening.
