Constant De La Bassetiere and Penn State Pick Up ITA Rankings

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State men's tennis earned its first ITA team ranking of the year at No. 39 out of 50 teams while Constant De La Bassetiere (Reims, France) picked up his own ranking, coming in at No. 92 in singles.

The Nittany Lions reached No. 44 as their highest ranking in 2018 competition and ended the regular season at No. 46.

The Blue and White are 5-3 in the spring so far with wins over Charlotte, William and Mary and a tournament win at the Jerry Simmons Invitational at LSU.

"Our strength of schedule is extremely high and I knew that some of our wins were very good," head coach Jeff Zinn said. "Going forward, we need to do a better job on the road and hopefully the players will adjust better to adverse playing conditions."

De La Bassetiere's ranking marks his first of the season in singles. He reached a rank of No. 94 last season.

The senior captain is 5-1 in the No. 1 position, earning wins over two other ranked opponents.

"I'm very pleased that Constant has come back into singles ranking," Zinn said. "He deserves it and has played extremely well lately. He and Ben Lieb have been terrific leaders this season. I think Christian Lakoseljac is also very close again to being ranked and that extra momentum will push the guys to greater heights."

De La Bassetiere and partner Gabriel Nemeth (Brasilia, Brazil) came in at No. 7 in doubles rankings. The pair has a 4-4 record.
