Senior Madison Carter scored five second half goals

Carter Scores Five In Second Half As No. 8 Penn State Falls 21-10 At No. 14 Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 8 Penn State women's lacrosse team fell 21-10 at No. 14 Princeton on Wednesday night at Sherrerd Field at Class of 1952 Stadium.  The Nittany Lions scored seven goals in the second half, including five by senior Madison Carter.  Penn State dropped to 3-1 overall, while the Tigers improved to 2-1.
 
Carter led the Nittany Lions with six points, including five goals, with all coming in the second half.  She now has 216 career points, moving into a tie for seventh all-time at Penn State with Laurie Gray (1981-84).  On the day, Carter passed current volunteer coach Steph Lazo (211; 2014-17).  Carter now has 196 career goals.
 
Junior Maria Auth and senior Delaney Muldoon each scored two goals, while junior Quinn Nicolai added one.  Sophomore Sophia Triandafils and freshman Sydney Wolfington each contributed an assist.  Brisolari won seven draw controls, while Carter earned six.  In goal, freshman Taylor Suplee had three assists, while sophomore Lucy Lowe made five stops.
 
Princeton was led by Kyla Sears' seven points, including three goals.  Tess D'Orsi and Elizabeth George each had five goals and an assist.  Kathryn Hallett had two goals and two assists, while Julia Haney had a goal and three helpers.  Sam Fish made nine saves in goal.
 
The Tigers finished the game with a 33-27 advantage in shots, including 29-19 in shots on goal.  Princeton held a 19-14 advantage in draw controls.  PSU was 7-of-16 on clear attempts.
 
The Nittany Lions trailed 12-3 at halftime.  The Tigers held a 19-12 advantage in shots and a 10-6 advantage in draw controls.  Auth, Muldoon and Nicolai each scored for PSU with Triandafils adding an assist.  Brisolari gained four draw controls.
 
Princeton opened the game on a 5-0 run.  Maria Pansini opened the scoring at the 28:01 mark.  D'Orsi scored four minutes later followed by a tally by George.  Tallies by D'Orsi and Sears completed the run, giving the Tigers a five-goal advantage with 20 minutes left in the half.
 
Muldoon got the Nittany Lions on the board with 19:23 remaining in the half, but the Tigers answered with six straight goals, including three by D'Orsi.  Princeton's George, Hallett and Haney added goals to give the Tigers an 11-1 lead with 8:28 to go in the period.
 
Nicolai answered with a goal a couple minutes later, off a feed by Triandafils.  After a free position goal by Princeton's Allie Rogers, PSU's Auth found the net at the 3:25 mark to close out the first half scoring.
 
Carter opened up the scoring in the second half, finding the net on a free position attempt with 28:43 to go in the half.  Carter won the ensuing draw and found Muldoon for her second goal of the to cut the deficit to 12-5 just 17 seconds later.
 
The Tigers answered with a 4-0 run, with two goals by George, one by Hallett and one by Rogers, to hold a 16-5 lead with 20:01 left in the game. 
However, Carter responded by scoring four of the game's next five goals.  She scored off a feed by Wolfington with 16:10 remaining and added a free-position tally two minutes later.  After a man-up goal by Princeton's Pansini, Carter found the net twice, including one on a free-position attempt.  Penn State trailed 17-9 with 10:45 left.
 
A goal by Princeton's George, with 9:16 remaining, was answered by a snipe by Auth off a feed by Carter with 8:42 left to keep the deficit at eight, 18-10.  However, the Tigers scored the final three goals with two tallies by Sears and one by Katie Reilly.
 
The Nittany Lions are on the road for another ranked matchup on Saturday.  Penn State travels to No. 13 Loyola (MD) for a 12 p.m. contest broadcasted on the Patriot League Network.
