UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State men's fencing team finished their fifth dual meet series in Durham, North Carolina. Head Coach Wes Glon's team won all five match-ups in its dual series today against Johns Hopkins, North Carolina, Boston College, Air Force and Duke.
Elias Cole (Chappaqua, N.Y.) and Gavin Turner (Rehoboth, Mass.) started the day recording a 3-0 shutout against Boston College to help the Nittany Lions best the Eagles, 15-12.
Penn State claimed its second win of the day against Duke by beating the Blue Devils 15-12 off of impressive showings from the epee squad and junior saber fencer Matt Lewicki (Oakland, N.J.). The men's epee squad lost only three total bouts while adding six to the win column in the second round while Lewicki posted a 3-0 shutout performance in saber.
Leading the Nittany Lions to their third win of the day was the men's saber team after losing only one bout between the three of them. Lewicki posted his second 3-0 performance of the day while sophomore teammate Inti Farfan-Bayerl (Morrison, Colo.) added one of his own in the 19-8 win over Johns Hopkins.
Losing only five combined bouts in the fourth round, the Nittany Lions extended their win streak to four on the day by beating North Carolina, 22-5.
Lewicki posted his third 3-0 performance of the night to help Penn State beat Air Force ,16-11, and remain undefeated for the men's section of the dual meet series.
The Penn State fencing team will continue action tomorrow when the women's fencing team will fence Northwestern, North Carolina , Boston College, Air Force and Duke.
