CLEMSON, S.C. – Penn State freshman Alexis Holmes recorded the No. 3 time in the nation and fourth-best time in Nittany Lion indoor history with a 52.58 time in the invitational section of the 400-meter dash at the Tiger Paw Invitational Friday afternoon.
Nittany Lion junior Maddie Holmberg competed in two events Friday afternoon, capturing Penn State season-best marks in both. Holmberg took third place in the long jump with a distance of 20-3.5 (6.18m). She advanced to the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles, but posted her 2018-19 best time of 8.52 in her qualifying heat.
Improving her time in the 400-meter dash from last month's Harvey-Simmons Big Ten Invitational, junior Kiara Lester ran a 54.54 for her 2018-19 season best and second place. Freshman Antoinette Bradley trimmed her season best to 55.97 in the 400-meter race.
On the men's side, sophomore Ben Peterson moved to the top of Penn State's 2018-19 performance list with a 57-0.75 (17.39m) throw in the shot put. Peterson earned ninth place at the event, which included some of the country's top competitors.
William Henderson had one of his top performances in his 60-meter dash qualifier at the Tiger Paw Invitational with a 6.69. Season-best times for freshmen Rick Zink (49.18) and Chase Ebersole (49.40) came in the 400-meter dash Friday afternoon as well.
Saturday's field events at the Tiger Paw Invitational begin at 9:30 a.m. ET with track sectionals going off at 11:30 a.m. ET. Start lists are available online with results posted following the events.
SEATTLE, Wash. – The Penn State track & field program saw many personal bests and a school record from its distance runners at the Husky Classic hosted by the University of Washington on Friday at Dempsey Indoor Track.
Senior Tim McGowan ran a school record 13:46.49 in the men's 5K to finish eighth. McGowan is the third Nittany Lion to set one of four school records this indoor season.
In the men's mile, senior Colin Abert ran a season-best 4:03.38 to finish 11th in a talented field. Owen Wing clocked in at 4:07.24, a personal best. On the women's side, Grace Trucilla ran a season-best 4:53.35.
The 3K saw three personal bests from the Nittany Lions. In the men's race, Brandon Hontz ran 8:13.17 for a PR. In the women's section, Moira O'Shea finished with a personal-best time of 9:29.19 and Jordan Williams ran a personal-best 9:37.57.
Freshman Ben Bumgarner shaved 10 seconds off his previous best in the men's 5K to clock in at 14:25.64.
The Husky Classic is completed for the weekend. Danae Rivers will run the women's mile at the prestigious Millrose Games on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
