No. 6 Penn State Takes Down Jacksonville, 24-11

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The No. 6 Penn State men's lacrosse team picked up its' second win of the weekend as they took down Jacksonville University, 24-11, in the Crown Lacrosse Classic in Charlotte, North Carolina. Penn State went 2-0 at The Crown with its' Friday night 19-13 win over No. 3 Cornell and were the only team to go 2-0 in the tournament.

Jacksonville opened the game up 2-0, and after the second JU goal, head coach Jeff Tambroni called a timeout and his choice to bring the troops together caused a complete turnaround in the Nittany Lion performance.

Out of the break, the Blue & White would score just 30 second following and would go on a 6-0 run before the Dolphins would get back on the board. From there, the offensive flood gates opened, and Penn State controlled the game to a 24-11 win.

Penn State's offense started at the faceoff 'x' once again as junior Gerard Arceri went 15-18 in the game, with nine groundballs and sophomore Jake Glatz won a career-best 13 faceoffs on 17 attempts with four groundballs. Glatz would also score his first career goal. Arceri also added an assist on the afternoon.
 


On his 14th faceoff win of the day, Arceri became the Penn State record holder for career faceoff wins with 511, he now sits at 512 for his career. Starting the day at third on the all-time list, Arceri passed both second-place Greg Gurenlian (508; 2003-06) and first-place Danny Henneghan (510; 2010-13), to take sole possession of the top.

After the faceoff success, Penn State was able to find the back of the cage on 24 occasions, with junior Grant Ament having his hand on 10 of the goals. The attackman scored two goal and dished out eight assists to tie his career high with 10 points. Ament now has four of the top-5 single game assist performances in the NCAA Division I Lacrosse in 2019.
 


On his seventh assist of the afternoon, Ament broke the Penn State single season assist record of 44 set by both Gary Martin (1982) and Jeff Connor (1988). Ament is now at 110 career assists, good for second all-time, trailing only Martin who recorded 156 from 1981-84.

Freshman TJ Malone had a day, scoring a personal best seven goal, adding six groundballs. Sophomore midfielder Jack Kelly recorded his fifth multi-goal game with a career-best four goals.
Both redshirt junior Dylan Foulds and junior Mac O'Keefe tallied four points as both scored three goals and dished out one assist.

Freshman Brett Hobbs scored his first career goal and added an assist, while senior defenseman Chris Sabia, senior LSM Kevin Fox, and sophomore John Nostrant each added goals, while redshirt freshman Dan Reaume, freshmen Jack Traynor and Joe White each tallied an assist.

Sabia added two caused turnovers and a groundball to his stat line, while Nick Spillane, TJ Connellan, Mike Aronow, and Jake McCaughan all recorded one caused turnover.

Junior Colby Kneese earned the win and recorded five saves, and both senior Trevor Scollins and sophomore Dylan Sulzbach each added one save.

Penn State gets a week off before heading to Cleveland State on Saturday, March 23 for a 12:30 p.m. ET first face in Cleveland, Ohio.
