ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Senior Hector Garcia Boissier won the 3-meter event while fellow senior Jack Crow advanced to the NCAA Championships on day two of the NCAA Zones Thursday evening in Lejeune Hall in Annapolis, Md. at the Naval Academy.
Leading for the Nittany Lions on the men's side was Hector Garcia Boissier, who finished day-two with a 12-dive first place finish in the 3-meter (796.35), adding to his NCAA Men's Swimming & Diving Championships docket. On day-one, he finished second in the 1-meter with a 12-dive score of 764.95. Jack Crow earned himself a spot in the NCAA Championships, finishing day-two with a fifth place finish with a score of 721.55. This is Crow's second appearance at the NCAA Championships. He will join Garcia Boissier, who will both be competing in the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas March 27-30.
"Today on the three-meter the guys dove fantastic," said Diving Coach Jeff DiNicola, "Hector won the event and was on point for his list. Jack also dove very well and secured himself a trip to the NCAA'. It will be the second appearance for him."
On the women's side, Christina Crowell completed the second day finishing less than three points shy of advancing to the final round, recording a score of 242.90 for a 20th place finish.
"Christina, again, is starting to put things together," said Coach DiNicola, "She finished just outside the finals by less than three points."
The format for the springboard events consists of six dives for all entered divers with the top-18 finishers from the preliminary round advancing to the finals where each will again perform six dives. Scores from the preliminary round are carried over into the finals. The platform event features all entered divers taking 12 dives.
Zone A will send six men's divers on the 1-meter, five on the 3-meter and five in platform diving to the national championship, while the women will advance six divers from the 1-meter event, six from the 3-meter and five from the platform competitions to the NCAA meet.
