GREENSBORO, Ga. – Junior Alec Bard carded a 2-under 70 to tie for 13th place in the opening round of the Linger Longer Invitational Friday as Penn State finished the afternoon in ninth. The Nittany Lions posted a 289 with No. 25 Louisville sitting in first with a 10-under 278 and 24th-ranked Alabama and Augusta are just ahead of the Penn State, tied for seventh at 288.
JD Hughes recorded three of his four birdies on the back nine and tied for 25th even at 72. Ryan Dornes had the best Nittany Lion score after the front nine, coming in at 2-under, but he finished at 1-over 73 after a challenging back nine.
Even for all but one of his first 10 holes, Charles Huntzinger finished his day with two birdies with a 2-over 74 for a tie for 41st. Ryan Davis tied for 66th with a 5-over 77 in the first round.
Day two of the three round, three-day tournament continues on Saturday with Penn State teeing off at 8:30 a.m. ET on The Landing Golf Course.
