AUSTIN, Texas – Penn State senior divers Hector Garcia Boissier and Jack Crow concluded standout collegiate careers at the NCAA Men's Swimming & Diving Championships Saturday at the Jamail Texas Swimming Center.
Garcia placed 17th in the 3-meter dive Saturday with a score of 350.20, while Crow posted a score of 241.45.
"Up through four dives, Hector was sitting really well, and then he just struggled on his last two dives, and this is a tough meet," said Penn State head coach Tim Murphy. "Hector has done a great job for us all four years, and he and Jack have both done well representing Penn State. Hector was second last night, and that will be our lasting memory of him, Hector standing on that podium as the second best diver in the country."
Garcia leaves Penn State as the program's 1-meter, 3-meter and platform dive record holder and as a four-time NCAA Championships participant, highlighted by Friday's silver medal performance in the 1-meter. Crow was a two-time NCAA qualifier.
"Hector had a good day for his last day as a college diver," said diving coach Jeff DiNicola. "He fought great and wanted to be in the finals again tonight, but it just did not play out that way. He leaves behind a great legacy and the highest place finish for a diver. Also, he has been a great athlete to work with. He has everything a coach would want for a great athlete and is also so smart with his aerospace engineering degree that he will finish in December. He will be truly missed by everyone on the team."
In the pool, freshman Michael Daly made his NCAA Championships debut in the 400 IM, placing 25th in 3:45.67.
"Michael had a solid swim, but I think he might have pressed just a little bit since it was his first swim of the meet and he was in the final heat," said Murphy. "It's a learning experience, so he'll be ready or his swims tomorrow."
Daly and sophomore Gabe Castano return to the pool Saturday for the final day of the Championships. Castano will compete in the 100 free and Daly will compete in both the 200 back and 1650 freestyle.
Preliminaries begin at 11 a.m. ET and are streamed for free on TexasSports.com, while the finals are set for 7 p.m. ET and will be streamed live on ESPN3.
