Penn State Fencing Heads to Regionals in Easton

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State fencing team starts the postseason in Easton, Pa. this Saturday, March 9, at the Mid-Atlantic/Southern Regionals. The competition starts at 9 a.m. at Lafayette College with men's and women's foil and epee.

The Nittany Lions will see action against Drew, Duke, Farleigh-Dickinson, Haverford, Johns Hopkins, Lafayette, North Carolina, Penn, Princeton, Stevens, Temple, New Jersey Institute of Technology and Wagner.

Fencing this weekend for the men will be:

Foil- Shane Iverson (Basking Ridge, N.J.), Sebastiano Bicego (Vicenza, Italy), Sebastian Tirado (Dorado, Puerto Rico), Mohamed Hassan (Saint Louis, Mo.)

Epee- Elias Cole (Chappaqua, N.Y.), Joshua Cole (Chappaqua, N.Y.), Ryan Griffiths (Fair Lawn, N.J.), Anton Piskovatskov (Houston, Texas)

Saber- Karol Metryka (Linden, N.J.), Inti Farfan-Bayerl (Morrison, Colo.), Gavin Turner (Rehoboth, Mass.), Marcel Dolegiewicz (Park Ridge, Ill.)

Fencing this weekend for the women are:

Foil- Isabella Zuzulo (Newtown, Pa.), Lodovica Bicego (Vicenza, Italy), Jade Rowland (Princeton Junction, N.J.), Najiyyah Clark (Maplewood, N.J.)

Epee- Barbara VanBenthuysen (Spring, Texas), Nicolette Vigna (Thornwood, N.Y.), Anastasia Kalonji (Rennes, France), Hailey Hahn (Berdnardsville, N.J.)

Saber- Kelli Wozniak (Westerville, Ohio), DeAna Oliver (Montclair, N.J.), Karen Chang (Hong Kong, China), Zara Moss (Cranberry Township, Pa.)

The qualification process for the NCAA Championship will be based off of a combination of the fencers' season record and this Saturday's results. The fencers' season statistics will count towards 40 percent of the qualification, with the final 60 percent coming from the fencers' performance this weekend.

Following this Saturday's action, select Penn State fencers will travel to Long Beach, Calif. for the Men's and Women's Grand Prix that starts Friday, March 15, and ends on Sunday, March 17.
