Zinn Named ITA Regional Coach Of The Year

ITA Release

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State men's tennis head coach Jeff Zinn has been named the Atlantic Region Wilson/ITA Coach of the Year, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced Saturday.

Zinn guided Penn State to its third 20-plus win season in school history this year, as well as the Nittany Lions eighth NCAA Tournament berth and third-ever NCAA Tournament victory. All three of the program's 20-plus win seasons have come during Zinn's eight-year tenure.

The Nittany Lions finished the season 20-9 overall to earn an at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament. Penn State defeated Monmouth 4-0 in the first round to collect the program's third-ever NCAA Tournament victory.

Penn State compiled an impressive 11-1 record when playing at home during the 2019 campaign. The Nittany Lions went 8-3 in Big Ten competition and entered the conference tournament as a No. 3 seed to tie a program-best from 2014.

Zinn also mentored unanimous first team All-Big Ten selection Constant De La Bassetiere to become Penn State's first NCAA Singles Championship qualifier since 2014. De La Bassetiere, ranked No. 29 in the latest ITA singles rankings, finished the dual match season with an impressive 21-4 record and will begin competition at the NCAA Singles Championship Monday.

Zinn is 129-95 in his eight years at Penn State. He has guided the Nittany Lions to their only three 20-plus win seasons in program history and three NCAA Tournament appearances.

Zinn is now in the running for National Coach of the Year honors. The national awards will be announced Sunday.
