Wildman Set To Play For U.S. At World University Games

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pennsylvania – Penn State men's volleyball's Brett Wildman is set to compete for the USA Volleyball 12-man roster that will compete in the 2019 World University Games in Napoli, Italy July 3-14.

Wildman is the only representative of the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) on the team and is also the squad's youngest member as he enters his sophomore year at Penn State in 2019-20.

"The chance to play for country is a highlight of very few volleyball players' careers," Penn State head coach Mark Pavlik said. "It's great to have another Nittany Lion represent the United States. We think Brett has a great opportunity to represent Penn State and showcase his talent and wish him and the team the best of luck."

As a freshman in 2019, Wildman was Penn State's most productive outside/opposite hitter down the stretch. The Virginia Beach native started the final 13 matches for the Nittany Lions and was named an EIVA Honorable Mention. He finished third on the team with 195 kills and 2.17 kills per set. He also had 29 service aces, good for the second-most on Penn State.

The EIVA Tournament is where Wildman really shined after posting 46 totals kills with a .367 hitting percentage, 13 digs, and five aces in two matches. He was named an EIVA All-Tournament Team selection.

Wildman was also a go-to scoring option for the USA Volleyball Men's Junior National Team at the Pan Am Cup last May. He was named Best Scorer for the entire tournament with 97 points. He was also the only player in the competition to compile double-digit kills, blocks, and aces.

Wildman becomes the 10th Nittany Lion in program history to be named to a World University Games roster and the first since 2015. The full list of Nittany Lions is below:
