UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State rising sophomore William Lulek will represent his native Sweden swimming at the 30th Summer World University Games in Napoli, Italy, July 4-10.
Lulek competed at the 2019 Canadian Swimming Trials and qualified for Sweden's World University Games team with a time of 4:24.02 in the 400-meter IM, which ranks 52nd in the world. He is slated to begin the games with the 200m IM on Friday, July 5, and then continue with the 200 breaststroke Saturday, July 6 and the 400m IM Wednesday, July 10.
Lulek is one of seven to swim for Sweden. He also swam in the 2017 games prior to arriving at Penn State and placed 19th in the 400m IM (4:30.21) and 29th in the 200m IM (2:06.03).
In his first season for the Nittany Lions, Lulek scored at the 2019 Big Ten Championships in the 400-yard IM, placing 17th with a season-best and NCAA B-cut time of 3:47.36.
