Carr Set for Pelicans’ 2019 NBA Summer League

NEW ORLEANS – Former Nittany Lion guard Tony Carr joins his NBA team, the New Orleans Pelicans, for the 2019 Summer League schedule. The Pelicans announced their 2019 NBA Summer League roster and mini-camp dates Monday.

From Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Carr turned pro following his sophomore year at Penn State after helping lead the Nittany Lions to the 2018 National Invitation Tournament (NIT) championship.

Carr was named the Under 22 MVP for the 2018-19 season in Italy's Lega Basket Serie A (LBA), the first non-Italian player to receive the award. He was the second-leading scorer for Fiat Torino at 12.8 points a game and then played for LBA's Pallacanestro Cantu, where he posted a double-figure scoring average and dished out a team-best 5.3 assists per game.

Carr was the first Nittany Lion men's basketball sophomore to reach the 1,000 career point milestone and the first sophomore to earn All-Big Ten first-team accolades. He was the No. 51 pick of the Pelicans in the 2018 NBA Draft, becoming the first Nittany Lion to be drafted since Calvin Booth was selected in the second round in 1998.

The Pelicans begin a three-day mini-camp July 2 in Las Vegas on the campus of UNLV with a primetime matchup at the Thomas & Mack Center with the New York Knicks on ESPN on July 5. Games against the Washington Wizards (July 6, ESPN), Chicago Bulls  (July 8, NBA TV) and Cleveland Cavaliers (July 10, ESPN2), are all at the Thomas & Mack Center. The single-elimination tournament portion of the schedule begins Friday, July 12.

Both Carr and 2019 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year Josh Reaves will participate in the 2019 NBA Summer League. Reaves will join the Dallas Mavericks after agreeing to a two-way contract in June.
