2019 Fall Schedule Announced for Men’s Golf

Opens in a new window 2019 Fall Men’s Golf Schedule

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State men's golf team returns to four prestigious tournaments this fall and will make its first showing at another event in 2019. Three of the Nittany Lions' five fall competitions are in North Carolina with additional trips to eastern Tennessee and Cincinnati.

"This schedule is filled with outstanding events, excellent golf courses, and high-quality competition," said Penn State men's golf coach Greg Nye, entering his 28th year with the Nittany Lions. "Winning at Duke last year was awesome, and we look forward to this outstanding event again this fall. We are so fortunate to compete in another great event the very next week hosted by Wake Forest at the Old Town Club."

The 2019 fall schedule includes some familiar locations for the Nittany Lions, beginning with the opening weekend Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 13-14 at the Rod Myers Invitational. The tournament is named for the longtime Duke men's golf coach who lost his battle with leukemia in 2007.

The 2018 defending champions, Penn State plays at the Duke University Golf Club for the fourth-straight year.

The Nittany Lions return to North Carolina for their second competition and first-ever appearance in the Old Town Club Collegiate, Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 23-24 in Winston-Salem, N.C. The Old Town Club course, a par-70 layout on 1,000 acres of rolling terrain, was designed in 1938 by renowned architect Perry Maxwell.

The anchor for Penn State's October schedule for the last seven years has been the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at the Blackthorn Club at the Ridges. The event, in its 26th year, is set for Friday-Sunday, Oct. 11-13. Penn State has captured the championship in 2015 and again in 2017, adding the Nittany Lions to the winners' list, a veritable "who's who" list of collegiate golf.

"Our trip to the Bank of Tennessee brings back many memories of some our best golf, in winning down there twice," Nye said. "This team is younger and will now have the opportunity to build some memories of their own."

Three of the program's top 10 individual low round scores were achieved at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate with a 54-hole tournament team score tied for the second-best mark all-time.

A new tournament for the Nittany Lions in 2018, Penn State returns to the UNCG/Grandover Collegiate for the fall season finale Sunday-Monday, Oct. 27-28. The Grandover Resort East Course has several NCAA events to its credit since it opened in 2012.

The Bearcat Invitational was another new destination for Penn State last season, though weather forced the cancellation of the competition. PSU will return to play at Coldstream Country Club Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 30-Oct. 1.
