LOS ANGELES, Calif.- The No. 7 Penn State women's soccer program completed the weekend sweep with a 3-0 win over Loyola Marymount on Sunday. Sam Coffey, Ally Schlegel and Frankie Tagliaferri each scored in the 3-0 win.

Penn State held firm control of the game from the opening kick. The Nittany Lion offense fired on all cylinders for all 90 minutes of the game.
Ally Schlegel tallied the first shot of the match in the fourth minute of action. This early action set the tone for the entire match. The Nittany Lions were awarded nine corner kicks in the first 22 minutes of action but could not find the back of the net.
The Nittany Lions drew a foul just outside of the box in the 24th minute. Sam Coffey stepped up and drilled her free kick into the net to give the Nittany Lions a 1-0 lead. Coffey has scored three times in her first four games as a Nittany Lion.
Four minutes later, Kate Wiesner nearly gave the Nittany Lions a 2-0 lead but was turned away by the LMU goalkeeper.
Penn State tallied 13 shots and 13 corner kicks in the first half of the match. The Nittany Lions and LMU went into halftime with Penn State leading 1-0.
The constant pressure from the Nittany Lions caused the LMU defense to crack in the second half. Ally Schlegel scored within the first minute of the second half to give Penn State a 2-0 lead. Frankie Tagliaferri collected the assist on the goal.
Penn State extended its lead to 3-0 in the 71st minute on Tagliaferri's third goal of the season.
The Nittany Lion defense allowed just two shots in the game, with none in the second half.
Penn State comfortably held on for a 3-0 win and improved to 3-1-0 on the season.
NOTES
The Nittany Lions are now 2-0 all-time vs. Loyola Marymount.
Penn State heads to No. 12 West Virginia on Friday, September 6 for its next match.
Sam Coffey and Frankie Tagliaferri are currently tied for the team lead with three goals.
