Women's Golf Third After Opening Day of Nittany Lion Invitational

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State women's golf team currently sits in third at 11-over (587) following the opening two rounds of the 43rd annual Nittany Lion Invitational at the Penn State Blue Course Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions shot rounds of 8-over (296) and 3-over (291) having their most success on the back nine for the day going just 2-over with 11 birdies on the way in over the two rounds.

Penn currently sits atop the leaderboard at 4-over (580), while Seton Hall is three shots back in second at 7-over (583) with Rutgers in fourth at 22-over (598) and Navy and High Point round out the top five in a tie for fifth at 33-over (609).

Seton Hall teammates Madeline Sager and Samantha Staudt are the only two players under par after the first two rounds at 5-under and 3-under while a trio of individuals sit at even-par entering the final round on Sunday.

Freshman Mathilde Delavallade (Royan, France) is one of three Nittany Lions tied for eighth at 2-over (146) after back-to-back rounds of 73 (1-over). The rookie posted just two bogeys with three birdies during the back-nine on Saturday and had six total birdies.

Junior Olivia Zambruno (Mt. Pleasant, Pa.) and sophomore Sarah Willis (Eaton, Ohio) also sit at 2-over (146) following the opening two rounds of play. Willis also went 73, 73 with five birdies while Zambruno carded rounds of 74, 72 also with five birdies on the day.

Senior classmates Maddy Herr (New Hope, Pa.) and Megan McLean (Lebanon, N.J.) rounded out the team scoring at 6-over (150) and 9-over (153), respectively, to sit in 19th position and tied for 30th.

Playing as an individual in her first collegiate tournament, freshman Lauren Freyvogel (Gibsonia, Pa.) is in a tie for 24th (8-over) following rounds of 77 and 75. Senior Ashni Dhruva (Katy, Texas) turned in rounds of 76 and 78 and sits tied for 34th at 10-over while redshirt-freshman Taylor Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) rounds out the individual scores with rounds of 82 and 79.

In total, Penn State carded 31 birdies throughout the day on its home course.

The Nittany Lions return tomorrow for the final round of competition with tee times ranging from 8:56 a.m. and 9:28 a.m. on hole one. Tee times begin at 8 a.m. with the individuals.
