WTEN Prepares For Battle in Hall of Fame Classic

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State Women's Tennis will be traveling for the second consecutive week as the squad heads to Williamsburg, Va. for the Hall of Fame Classic from Sept. 27-29. The team will face competition from Maryland, Miami (FL), Liberty, Old Dominion, VCU, West Virginia, and host, William & Mary.

The Nittany Lions will be represented by senior Shannon Hanley (Kensington, Md.), juniors Frederikke Svarre (Copenhagen, Denmark) and Hanna Wikberg (Stockholm, Sweeden), and sophomores Gracey Hirsch (Cincinnati, Ohio), Olivia Ryan (Victoria, Australia), and Sydney Weinberg (Winchester, Mass.).

Penn State is coming off of its season-opening weekend in which the Nittany Lions split their squad to compete in tournaments at Penn and Auburn. Svarre and senior Samantha Smith (Cary, N.C.) led the Nittany Lions with two wins apiece at the Auburn's Marliss Gruver Invite, while Ryan had two wins of her own at Penn's Cissie Leary Invite.

The Hall of Fame Classic will be held in conjunction with the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Women's Tennis Hall of Fame Weekend and induction ceremony on Saturday, Sept. 28.

The tournament will be held in William & Mary's Millie West Tennis Center and McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center.

Looking forward, Penn State will be on the road again for the Northwestern Wildcat Invite in Evanston, Ill. from Oct. 4-6.
