WILLIAMSBURG, Va. –The Penn State Women's Tennis team traveled to Williamsburg, Va. for William & Mary's Hall of Fame Classic, where they competed in a singles matchup against Liberty and a doubles faceoff versus Old Dominion.
Singles
In singles competition against Liberty, junior Frederikke Svarre (Copenhagen, Denmark) was victorious over freshman Micaela Ode Mitre, 6-1, 6-3. Senior Shannon Hanley (Kensington, Md.) lost a close three-set match against Caisey Lee Emery, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 1-0 (4). Sophomore Olivia Ryan (Victoria, Australia) defeated junior Grace Hashiguchi 7-5, 6-3. Sophomore Sydney Weinberg (Winchester, Mass.) dropped her match against freshman Esther Lovato, 6-0, 6-0. Junior Hanna Wikberg (Stockholm, Sweeden) won a match against junior Nasha Ghajar, 6-1, 6-4. Sophomore Gracey Hirsch wrapped up singles competition with a 6-3, 6-0 win over freshman Kelly Lewis.
The Nittany Lions will face off against Old Dominion as they continue singles play tomorrow at 10:30 a.m.
Doubles
For doubles competition against Old Dominion, Penn State's duo of Hanley/Ryan came up short against Talbi/Starodubsteva, 8-4. Svarre/Wikberg faced off against the combo of Hutchinson/Pilkington in an 8-4 loss for the Nittany Lions. Hirsch/Weinberg played against Biran/Viktorovich, losing 8-4.
Penn State will look forward to facing Maryland as doubles play picks back up tomorrow at 9 a.m.
