WTEN Wraps Up Day Two of Hall of Fame Classic

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. –The Penn State Women's Tennis team finished up the second day of the Hall of Fame Classic at William & Mary, where the Nittany Lions competed in a singles matchup versus Old Dominion and a doubles clash against Maryland. 
 
Singles
In the singles matchup against Old Dominion, junior Frederikke Svarre (Copenhagen, Denmark) was defeated by senior Holly Hutchinson, 7-6 (5), 6-0. Sophomore Olivia Ryan (Victoria, Australia) lost to redshirt freshman Shalimar Talbi, 6-1, 6-1. Senior Shannon Hanley (Kensington, Md.) dropped her first set to junior Yulia Starodubtseva, 6-2 before retiring in the second set. Junior Hanna Wikberg (Stockholm, Sweden) suffered a 6-3, 7-5 loss to freshman Shahar Biran in two close sets. Sophomore Sydney Weinberg (Winchester, Mass.) lost to freshman Alexandra Viktorovich by a 6-0, 6-2 score. Sophomore Gracey Hirsch finished up the singles matchup with a 6-1, 6-1 defeat at the hands of senior Brooke Pilkington.
 
The Nittany Lions will continue singles play tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. with a matchup against Maryland.
 
Doubles
In doubles competition against Maryland, the pairing of Hanley/Svarre were defeated by Akli/Yemelyaneka in an 8-4 pro set. The duo of Hirsch/Ryan dropped their set against the Terrapin tandem of Hamlin/Kulkami, 8-4. The combo of Weinberg/Wikberg lost in a back-and-forth match against Usui/Policare, 8-7 (4).
 
Penn State will close out doubles play tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. as they square off against Liberty.
