MGOLF Closes First Day at Bearcat Invitational in Third

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Penn State men's golf team completed day one of the Bearcat Invitational in third behind No. 16 Louisville and No. 17 Arkansas with a 3-under 565 total. The Nittany Lions finished their 36-hole day on Monday improving on their 1-under 283 score in the morning round with a 2-under 282 later in the day.
 
Senior Ryan Davis (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) finished the day with a 3-under 139 (70-69) to move up into a tie for eighth place with eight birdies on the day, four in each round.
 
Lukas Clark (Holland, Pa.) came in at 2-over 73 in the early round then shot up the leaderboard with a 3-under 67, tying his career-low round. He is currently in a tie for 10th with his 140 (73-67) with teammate Alec Bard, who made a team-high nine birdies Monday. Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.) birdied his last two holes for his 2-under 140 (68-72).
 
Competing as an individual, Ryan Lee (Norwood, N.J.) posted a 3-over 145 (73-72) for a tie for 32nd. Junior Lou Olsakovsky (Upper St. Clair, Pa.) went 4-over for the day at 146 (72-74) to tie for 41st. Freshman Patrick Sheehan (Doylestown, Pa.) shot a 151 (75-76) and stands at 63.
 
Louisville leads the field with a 22-under 246 (272-274). Arkansas trimmed some of the space between the Cardinals and Razorbacks in the second round with a 9-under 559 (281-278(, but only enough for to pull within 13 strokes. John Murphy (67+66=133) has a one-stroke lead over Cardinal teammate Matthias Schmid (67+67=134) for two of the top three spots with another teammate, Trevor Johnson, in fifth.
