Swimming & Diving to Host West Virginia for Pink Meet

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State swimming & diving will continue their 2019-20 season at home in McCoy Natatorium this weekend. Both teams will face off against the West Virginia Mountaineers starting with the men Friday at 5 p.m., and the women Saturday at noon. This meet will be Penn State's "Pink Meet", in which they will wear pink suits to raise cancer awareness.

The Series
The Penn State women's team is 12-0 against West Virginia this century, with it's last win being a 144-99 score in 2014. The Penn State men's team is 25-15 against West Virginia all-time, but 8-1 against them in the past 10 years. The men last faced off against West Virginia in January last season with a 173-122 win at home which,  became their fourth consecutive victory against the Mountaineers in a series dating back to 1967.

The Nittany Lions
Last weekend, the men dominated St. Bonaventure, 192-145, recording six 1-2-3 sweeps throughout the meet. With five top-two finishes, Austin Wilson led the team as he touched first in the 25 freestyle (9.69) and 200 free relay (1:24.10) and placed second in the 50 butterfly (22.86) and 100 medley relay (42.63). Sophomores Brad Johnson, Juliusz Gosieniecki, and Michael Daly all secured two first-place finishes each against the Bonnies. Johnson won the 50 free (21.20) and 50 breaststroke (25.95), Gosieniecki touched first in the 50 fly (22.54) and 100 fly (49.90) and Daly secured the win in the 200 free (1:38.29) and 200 free relay (1:24.10). Sophomore diver, Bryce Hoch, added to the win total as he placed first in both the 1-meter dive (296.50) and the 3-meter dive (303.15).

The Penn State women, led by Carly Hart, Maddie Hart, and Camryn Barry, swept Liberty 212-139 and St. Bonaventure 279-79. Carly Hart led the women with three individual wins in the 50 breast (28.63), 100 breast (1:02.28), and 200 IM (2:04.80). Maddie Hart and Camryn Barry also finished the meet with a pair of wins each: Hart won the 50 back (25.19) and 100 fly (55.93) while Barry won the 200 free (1:50.67) and 500 free (4:56.38). Freshman Abbie Amdor, one of 11 new swimmers with the Nittany Lions this season, won the 100 free (51.36) in her debut.

The Opponents
West Virginia will open their competitive season against Penn State. Last season, the women placed third in the Big 12 Championships while the men placed second. The Mountaineers qualified three swimmers to the 2019 NCAA Championships. NCAA qualifier David Dixon will return for the men this season, while Morgan Bullock will return for the women. Last season, the men went 4-2 in dual meets, while the women went 3-3 Senior Morgan Bullock leads the team after swimming the 200 IM, 100 and 200 fly.

The Penn State men's and women's teams will host Virginia Tech and Ohio State in McCoy Natatorium in a two-day meet beginning Friday, November 1 at 5 p.m. and continuing Saturday at 10 a.m.
