Women’s Rugby Falls to Army

The Penn State women's rugby team was unable to maintain their winning ways, dropping a tough 70-0 match against Army on Saturday. The loss drops the team to 3-3 overall on the season, while remaining 2-0 in Big Ten conference play.

The Black Knights came out firing right from the start, scoring two tries and taking a 12-0 lead within the first six minutes. Unfortunately for Penn State, they would have no intentions of slowing down, posting a 44-0 scoreline at the half. The win moves Army to an impressive 5-1 on the season including an unblemished NIRA record of 4-0.

The banged-up Nittany Lions showed a lot of grit throughout the game, and some newer players got some valuable playing time and experience.

"The game was quite a battle," said Ellie Fromstein (senior - psychology). "I don't think the score reflected the effort, but we did have some holes in both our attack and defense that hopefully we'll be able to tune up in practice and learn from our mistakes."

Army also emerged victorious in the B Side game, winning 20-0.

The Nittany Lions will look to bounce back into form this weekend, traveling to play both Big Ten foe Michigan State and perennial rugby powerhouse Lindenwood University.
