WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Penn State women's golf team currently sit tied for 13th in the 18-team field after shooting 14-over (302) during the second round of the Landfall Tradition at the Country Club of Landfall's Dye Course on Saturday afternoon.
"The course continued to play tough with pin placement and green speeds," mentioned head coach Denise St. Pierre. "We are continuing to learn each round and are so close to putting it all together."
No. 13 Alabama used an eye-popping 10-under (278) to move to 13-under for the tournament and jump out to a commanding 11-stroke lead over No. 9 South Carolina who carded a 3-under (285) second round and is 2-under for the tournament. No. 37 Florida State (3-over), No. 19 Illinois (5-over) and No. 16 Oklahoma State (5-over) round out the top-five entering Sunday morning's final round.
The Nittany Lions currently sit at 22-over through 36 holes and are ahead of Big Ten foes No. 44 Michigan (23-over), Purdue (25-over) and No. 42 Maryland (31-over).
Sophomore Sarah Willis (Eaton, Ohio) continued her strong play pacing the team with a 2-over round of 74 and currently sits tied for 12th at 1-under for the tournament. Freshman Mathilde Delavallade (Royan, France) also shot 2-over (74) on the day which included a 3-under 33 on her opening nine of the day mixing in one bogey with four birdies.
Senior Maddy Herr (New Hope, Pa.) and junior Olivia Zambruno (Mt. Pleasant, Pa.) rounded out the top-four scorers for Penn State with identical rounds of 5-over (77) while senior Megan McLean (Lebanon, N.J.) finished the day 12-over (84).
The Nittany Lions conclude the tournament tomorrow morning with an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start.
