Zakutney to Compete at World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. –
Penn State rising senior Sam Zakutney looks to add to his already successful summer of competition when he competes at the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany. Zakutney, who represents Team Canada, begins his qualifying session on Monday.

The best eight teams from the qualifying session will compete in the final on Wednesday. The 24 best individuals will compete in the all-around final on Friday, Oct. 11.

Coverage of the qualifying session will start on the Olympic Channel on Monday at 4 a.m. (ET). The team final will stream on Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. (ET), and the all-around final will stream on Friday, Oct. 11, at 10 a.m. (ET).

Zakutney was dominant at the 2019 Canadian Championships in May, winning the title in the all-around, vault, parallel bars, and horizontal bar. He added a runner-up finish in the floor exercise.

It will be the second straight year that Zakutney competes at the World Championships. He made his FIG World Championships debut last year in Doha, Qatar.

Zakutney is a three-time All-American for Penn State, earning the honor on the parallel bars twice and on the high bar once. He was a First Team All-Big Ten honoree last season after winning his first conference title on the parallel bars while also helping the Nittany Lions win their first team title since 2015.
