UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State women's basketball team used a hot-shooting performance to take down defending Atlantic 10 champion Fordham, 72-59, Wednesday night inside the Bryce Jordan Center. The win marked the 950th victory in program history, making Penn State one of only 20 Division I schools to have tallied at least 950 wins.

Penn State shot a season-best 53.2 percent (25-for-47) from the field against the Rams, highlighted by a blistering 65.2 percent (15-for-23) clip in the second half.

Senior Siyeh Frazier led the way with her second-career double-double thanks to a career-high 19 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Kamaria McDaniel followed with 18 points, while freshman Anna Camden went a perfect 4-for-4 from three-point range en route to a 14-point performance. Sophomore Lauren Ebo rounded out the double-digit scorers with 11 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • A back-and-forth first quarter had the score tied at 10-10 eight minutes in. Four points from McDaniel and a basket from junior Alisia Smith comprised a 6-2 quarter-closing streak as Penn State took a 16-12 lead into the second term.
  • The Lady Lion defense was on full display to begin the second quarter as Penn State held Fordham scoreless for a six-minute span from the 58 second mark of the first to the 5:03 mark of the second. Another McDaniel basket and Camden's first career three-pointer during the scoreless Fordham streak gave the Lady Lions a 21-12 lead with 5:31 on the clock.
  • Fordham closed the second quarter by going 4-for-5 from three-point range in the final five minutes. Penn State answered with treys of its own from McDaniel and Camden, in addition to a basket from Frazier, to keep its lead in tact and take a 29-24 edge into halftime.
  • Penn State came out on fire in the second half, starting 3-for-3 from the field and 5-for-6 from the free throw line to ignite a 12-2 streak that gave the Lady Lions a 41-26 lead three minutes into the third quarter.
  • The Lady Lion advantage reached as much as 18 following five-straight points from Frazier that put the score at 50-32 with 3:29 on the clock.
  • Fordham scored eight of the final 11 points of the stanza, but Penn State still carried a 13-point lead, 53-40, into the final quarter.
  • The Rams scored the first five points of the fourth quarter to pull within 53-45 less than a minute in.
  • Camden then hit her fourth three of the night which proved to be the dagger to Fordham's momentum.
  • The Rams wouldn't get closer than nine the rest of the way as Penn State grabbed the 72-59 victory.

FROM THE SOURCE
Head Coach Carolyn Kieger

  • "This was our 950th program win which is awesome, so I want to congratulate everyone that has worn the jersey, every Lady Lion that has contributed to those 950 wins.  That is a heck of a lot of wins, and I am proud to be a part of two of those and hopefully a lot coming down the stretch here for us."
  • "I thought our team really responded tonight from an energy perspective.  We talked about that for the last two days about celebrating, being great teammates, and bringing the juice as we call it, and I thought they did a really great job responding to the adversity we hit against Rider."
  • "Obviously huge performances tonight from Siyeh [Frazier] with a double-double, five steals as well to add to that, and Anna Camden off the bench was amazing. Four-for-four from the three-point line, so some great individual performances."
