Nittany Lions Head to Big Ten Championships

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State cross country program travels to Columbus, Ohio for the 2019 Big Ten Cross Country Championships on Sunday, November 3. The men's race is scheduled to begin at 10:45 a.m. ET followed by the women's race at 11:45 a.m. ET.

THE FIELD

The Nittany Lions are set to face a very strong field on Sunday in Columbus. On the women's side, eight Big Ten teams are ranked in the latest top 25 coaches poll. This includes three teams in the top 10. On the men's side, four Big Ten teams are ranked in the latest top 25 poll.

LAST TIME OUT
The last meet for the Penn State cross country program was the Penn State National Open on October 18 on the Blue-White Golf Course. Senior Kathryn Munks captured the individual title and led Penn State to 31 points and a team title. Munks completed her season sweep at the Blue-White Golf Course, finishing the race with a time of 20:13.0. Her time of 20:13.0 was good for sixth all-time in National Open history.

Julia Paternain finished fifth, running 20:42.8 on the 6k course. Alison Willingmyre (20:50.7) and Danae Rivers (20:52.8) finished sixth and seventh respectively. Megan Ciasullo (21:15.8) rounded out the team score with a 17th place finish.

The men's cross country team finished third at the National Open on October 18. Ben Bumgarner was the top finisher for the men's team, placing ninth with a time of 25:48.5. Billy McDevitt ran 25:49.9 to finish 11th followed by Owen Wing who finished 12th with a time of 25:50.4.

NATIONAL RANKINGS
The Penn State women's cross country team is ranked No. 18 nationally and No. 1 in the region. The women's cross country team has been ranked in the top 25 in five of the six weeks of the USTFCCCA poll.

NEXT TIME OUT
The Nittany Lions head to Bethlehem, Pa. for the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional meet on Friday, November 15.
