Women’s Tennis Announces 2020 Schedule

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State Women's Tennis team and first-year head coach Alex Anghelescu have released the 2020 spring schedule. The spring slate will feature eight home matches and ten Big Ten matches.

Anghelescu enters her first year as head coach of the Nittany Lions following a two-year stint as an assistant coach. Penn State will have a familiar unit as all nine players on the roster are returnees from 2019, led by seniors Shannon Hanley (Kensington, Md.) and Samantha Smith (Cary, N. C.). The roster will also return four juniors and three sophomores.

"I'm really excited to see what the future holds for this upcoming spring. Our team has been fully committed and determined to changing the culture to one that pushes us to reach our fullest potential," stated Anghelescu. "The girls have shown tremendous dedication to the process and the goals we have set for this season. I know that the work they have put in this fall emotionally and physically will pay off in the spring."

The Nittany Lions will begin the season with a trip to Kansas State for a match with the Wildcats on Jan. 18 and remain in Manhattan for a neutral site match against Iowa State on Jan. 19.

Penn State will then have four more non-conference matchups to prepare for Big Ten play, opening with a home match against Marshall on Jan. 31 and wrapping up Feb. 16 at Virginia Tech.

Big Ten play opens with the Nittany Lions on the road against Indiana on Mar. 1 before returning home for matches against Michigan on Mar. 13, Michigan State on Mar. 15, and Illinois on Mar. 20.

The team will then play one final out of conference match against Temple on Mar. 21 at home.

Following the Nittany Lions four game home stand, Penn State will embark on a four game road trip opening with a matchup against Minnesota on Mar. 27 and closing out at Iowa on Apr. 12.

Penn State will end the season with two final home matches starting with Rutgers on Apr. 17 and finishing against Maryland on Apr. 19.

At the conclusion of the regular season, the Big Ten Tournament will be held in West Lafayette, Ind. hosted by Purdue.
