WINTHROP, Mass. – Penn State freshman defender Mallory Uihlein was named the College Hockey America (CHA) Rookie of the Week for her performance this past weekend for the Nittany Lions' women's hockey team as announced by the league office on Monday.
Uihlein help the Nittany Lions to a runner-up finish in the Thanksgiving Windjammer Classic hosted by the University of Vermont last Friday and Saturday. The Edina, Minn. native picked up four assists for four points in two games and was named to the Windjammer Classic All-Tournament Team.
She tied a program single-game high with three helpers in PSU's 4-0 win over Vermont on Friday before adding another assist in the title game against No. 7/6 Clarkson.
This is the second time this season Uihlein has garnered CHA Rookie of the Week honors. She also won the award Oct. 21, 2019 after a great two-way performance in a road series at Providence.
Uihlein now has seven points on seven assists this season, which ranks first among all CHA freshmen blue liners. Her seven points also ranks second in the conference among all freshman skaters.
Uihlein and the Nittany Lions finish up the first half of the 2019-20 regular season with a home conference series against RIT Friday and Saturday, Dec. 6 and 7, at Pegula Ice Arena.
