WINTHROP, Mass. – Just days after claiming her second College Hockey America (CHA) Rookie of the Week honor, Penn State freshman Mallory Uihlein received the CHA Rookie of the Month honor for her play in the month of November as announced by the conference office Thursday afternoon.
Uihlein has emerged as one of the Nittany Lions' top playmakers this season and is tied for the team lead with seven assists, five of which came in the month of November.
Her seven points ranks first among all freshman defenders in the conference and also ranks second among all rookie skaters in the lead.
Uihlein was most recently named to the Windjammer Classic All-Tournament Team after picking up four assists over the two-game tournament, including tying a single-game program record with three assists in PSU's 4-0 win Nov. 29 against Vermont.
Uihlein also won CHA Rookie of the Week Oct. 21 after a solid two-way performance against Providence. She had an assist in the two-game series and was the Nittany Lions most influential players assisting with puck possession and moving the puck.
The Edina, Minn. native becomes the fourth Nittany Lion ever to win a CHA Rookie of the Month award. Fellow blue liner Izzy Heminger won the award last November while teammate Natalie Heising won the award twice her freshman season in 2017-18. Shannon Yoxheimer was the first Nittany Lion to win the award back in 2012.
Uihlein and the Nittany Lions finish up the first half of the 2019-20 regular season with a home conference series against RIT Friday and Saturday, Dec. 6 and 7, at Pegula Ice Arena.
