Holmberg Wins Pentathlon on Day 1 of Bison Opener

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Penn State track and field team opened the indoor season on Friday, December 6 at the Bison Opener. The Nittany Lions continue competition at Bucknell on Saturday morning.

Senior captain Maddie Holmberg began the indoor season by winning the pentathlon event with 4,075 points. Holmberg won all five events at the Bison Opener in the pentathlon. 

Holmberg ran 8.84 in the 60m hurdles to begin the pentathlon. Holmberg followed up the 60m hurdles by setting a personal-best height in the high jump. Holmberg cleared 1.66m to set her new personal-best.

Holmberg threw 13.12m in the shot put, jumped 5.91m in the long jump and ran 2:24.17 in the 800m to complete the clean sweep of the pentathlon.

In 2019, Holmberg finished ninth at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships and is second all-time in Penn State history in the pentathlon with 4,227 points.

Along with Holmberg, Rae Rae Taylor finished second in the pentathlon with 3,465 points.

On the men's side, Isaiah Dillard leads the heptathlon with 2,955 points after the first day of competition. Dillard set a three indoor personal-bests in the 60m, high jump and the long jump.

David Bolles sits second after day one in the heptathlon. Bolles has accumulated 2,695 points after the first four events.

The Nittany Lions continue the Bison Opener tomorrow, December 7 in Lewisburg.
