Trio of Top Three Finishers Lead Penn State Men's Swimming & Diving on Day One of Big Al Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J. – Swimmers Michael Daly and William Roberson and diver Jonah Cey led the Penn State men's swimming & diving team during the first day of competition at the Big Al Invitational at Princeton.
 
The Nittany Lions totaled 193 points on the first of three days of competition, putting them in fourth place leading into the second day.
 
Top Swims
Sophomore Michael Daly placed first in the 500 freestyle with an NCAA B-cut and career-best time of 4:20.10, shaving 5.15 seconds off his previous career-best (4:25.25).
 
William Roberson swam a career-best and an NCAA B-Cut in the 50 free with a third-place time of 19.42 which ranks eighth-fastest in the NCAA this season, beating his previous career-best time of 19.52 which was set at the 2019 Big Ten Championships. Junior Juliusz Gosieniecki also set a career best in the 50 free with a time of 20.47.
 
Hayden Harlow touched fourth in the 200 IM with a time of 1:47.06 and William Lulek set a career-best in the same event with a time of 1:48.40.
 
Nittany Lion Relays
The 400 medley relay team of Austin Wilson, Daniel Raisanen, Juliusz Gosieniecki, and Will Roberson closed out day one of the meet with a season-best time of 3:15.28.
 
Top Dives
On the boards, sophomore Jonah Cey scored a personal best during preliminaries in the 1-Meter dive (323.00). Byrce Hoch secured third-place in the 1-meter dive with a score of 306.50"Jonah and Bryce dove well in finals. Bryce increased his score by 45 points in finals and Jonah had a personal record in prelims" said Head Diving Coach, Jeff DiNicola

The Penn State men will continue competition tomorrow at the Big Al Invitational, starting with prelims at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m. The meet will conclude on Sunday, starting with prelims at 9 a.m. and finals at 5 p.m.
