Heising, Lantto, & Burke Sweep CHA Weekly Awards

WINTHROP, Mass. – The Penn State women's hockey team swept all three weekly College Hockey America awards for its performances last weekend in two conference wins over RIT.

Junior Natalie Heising was named Player of the Week, freshman Mikayla Lantto won Rookie of the Week, and junior Chantal Burke earned Goaltender of the Week honors.

This marks the first time the Nittany Lions have swept all three conference awards since joining the CHA in their inaugural 2012-13 season.

Heising paced the Nittany Lions' offense with three goals over the weekend, including notching her program-high 15th career power-play goal last Friday. The Wayzata, Minn., native also scored twice more on Saturday during PSU's five-goal third period, tying the most goals the program has scored in a single period in program history (Jan. 4, 2013 vs. Chatham, 10-0 win).

Her two-goal performance on Saturday marked her first two-goal game of the season and the seventh of her career, a mark that ranks third in program history.

Lantto scored her first goal as a Nittany Lion in Friday's game, and her goal ended up being the game winner as the Nittany Lions went on to win in a 3-0 shutout. Lantto, from Palmer, Alaska, also added her first career assist in the first period in Saturday's game for a two-point weekend.

Lantto is the second Nittany Lion to win a CHA Rookie of the Week award this season after Mallory Uihlein won it twice Oct. 21 and Dec. 2.

Burke picked up two wins in goal, including her fourth shutout of the season in Friday's win, on her way to her second Goaltender of the Week honor. The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, native stopped 33 shots for the weekend, including 21 in Friday's shutout win.

Burke's four shutouts this season ties a single-season program high for shutouts accomplished previously by Jenna Brenneman in 2018-19 and Celine Whitlinger in 2015-16.

She leads the conference entering the midseason break with a 1.67 goals-against average and a .932 save percentage, both which rank in the top 10 nationally.

Penn State will play again after the holiday break when the Nittany Lions host New Hampshire, Jan. 3-4 at Pegula Ice Arena.
