Women’s Swimming Leads Buffalo on Day 1

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State women's swimming team concluded day one of a two-day dual meet against Buffalo with a 95-52 lead, Friday evening in McCoy Natatorium.

Top Swims
Junior Carly Hart, sophomore Marie Schobel, and sophomore Brooke Matthias had a great first day of competition, each coming away with an individual win while also swimming in the winning 400 medley relay team. Hart won 200 Breast (2:15.17), Schobel won the 100 Back (54:87), and Matthias won the 200 fly (2:03.46).  

Sophomore Madison Murtaugh and junior Stephanie Szekely, each earned an individual win, as Murtaugh came out on top of the 1000 free (10:14.23) and Szekely won the 400 IM (4:24.83). 

Nittany Lion Relays
To open the meet, the Nittany Lions took first and second in the 400 medley relay. The winning team of Schobel, Hart, Matthias, and Abbie Amdor had a time of 3:45.11 while the second place team of Emma Harvey, Stephanie Szekely , Margaret Markvardt, and Elizabeth Gaspari trailed with a time of 3:52.34. The final event of the evening was the 200 free relay, and the Nittany Lions finished in second and third.

Penn State will host Buffalo at home for their second day of competition on Saturday, January 11 in the McCoy Natatorium at 10 a.m.
