ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Christina Crowell had another impressive day at the Navy Diving Invitational, leading the Penn State women's diving team with a win in the 3-meter dive Saturday afternoon at Lejeune Hall.
Penn State leads the team rankings on the women's side with 55 points for a seven-point advantage over host Navy (48) in second place. Navy (79) leads second-place Penn State (43) on the men's side and overall carries a 127-98 combined advantage over the Nittany Lions.
After placing first in the prelims for the 3-meter, Crowell earned a career-best and NCAA Zones qualifying score of 325.25 in the finals for her second event win of the invitational. Sophomore Sierra Shurts also placed in the top three in the 3-meter, placing third in the finals with a career-best and NCAA Zones qualifying score of 286.25, while Kamryn Umbel placed fifth and narrowly missed qualifying for Zones with a score of 278.80.
On the men's side, three Nittany Lions made it to the finals in the 1-meter. Freshman Kevin Sullivan placed third in the finals with a score of 293.05, with Bryce Hoch and Jonah Cey rounding out the top five with scores of 286.10 and 284.70, respectively.
Crowell led the Penn State divers on the first day of competition Friday, narrowly reaching the finals after placing eighth in the prelims, but rebounded to post the winning score of 248.60. Shurts finished fourth with a score of 237.35, while Wei Wei also reached the finals with a prelim score of 241.00.
Hoch led the Penn State men with a third-place finish in the 3-meter dive with a score of 290.10, and Cey (273.65) and Sullivan (271.80) followed him in fifth and sixth, respectively.
In addition to Penn State and host Navy, divers from George Washington, Liberty and Marist are competing in the event, with the top eight from the preliminary round advancing to the finals.
The meet concludes Sunday with the platform for both the men and the women.
