UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State women's lacrosse senior attacker Madison Carter was named to the Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-America third team on Wednesday.  In 2020, Carter will look to added to an already impressive Nittany Lion career.
 
The Davidsonville, Maryland native is a two-time IWLCA All-American selection, earning second team honors in 2017 and 2018. Carter was a first-team IWLCA All-Region pick in 2017 and 2018 as well as a second team honoree in 2016.  She has earned three All-Big Ten selections and was the Big Ten Freshman of the Year, first in program history, in 2016.
 
Carter is set to make her return to the field after suffering an injury early in 2019. She will return for her fifth year in the program after graduating with a degree in rehabilitation and human services in May 2019.
 
Through the first six games of the 2019 season, Carter tallied 17 goals, four assists, five ground balls, 24 draw controls and two caused turnovers. She had three multi-point games.  She matched a career high with six goals against Cornell.  She also had five goals and six draw controls at Princeton and four goals and an assist against Towson.
 
Carter sits fifth all-time at Penn State with 197 career goals.  She is also seventh in program history with 218 points.  With five points against Towson in the 2019 season opener, Carter became the 15th Nittany Lion to reach the 200-point mark.  
 
The Nitttany Lions, led by Head Coach Missy Doherty, won eight games in 2019.  Penn State is set to return 24 members for the 2020 season and add 11 newcomers.  The returnees include Carter and All-Big Ten senior attacker Maria Auth.
 
Penn State will play its second season in Panzer Stadium.  The Nittany Lions earned five home wins in 2019, including four in Panzer Stadium. The Nittany Lions will open the Spring with a home scrimmage against Cincinnati on Saturday, February 1 at 3 p.m.
 
The Nittany Lions begin the regular season on Saturday, February 8 at Towson at noon.
