UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State track & field program continues its 2020 indoor campaign at two separate locations this weekend, Jan. 24-25. A portion of the Nittany Lions team heads to Lexington, Kentucky for the Rod McCravy Memorial hosted by the University of Kentucky. Another portion of the program travels to New York to compete at the Armory in the Dr. Sander Invitational.

The Penn State track and field program opened the 2020 year with the Nittany Lion Challenge on Saturday, January 11 at the Multi-Sport Facility/Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track. Several Nittany Lions turned in personal-best performances during the first meet of 2020.
The Nittany Lions won 13 events at the Nitttany Lion Challenge, highlighted by several personal-best marks. For full recap of the event, click here.

RECORD BOOK REORDER
The Nittany Lion Challenge saw two Penn State student-athletes move into the top-five all time in the Penn State indoor record books. Gianna Rao and Tyler Merkley each etched their names into Penn State history in their respective weight throw events. Gianna Rao recorded a top throw of 66-10 (20.37m) to win the weight throw event at the Nittany Lion Challenge and move into fourth all-time in Penn State history in the event.
Tyler Merkley's personal-best toss 68-7.75 (20.92m) placed him second at the Nittany Lion Challenge and fourth all-time in the men's weight throw.
NITTANY LION ALL-AMERICANS
The Nittany Lions return numerous All-America performers to the 2020 indoor roster. Senior Danae Rivers won the first women's indoor individual national championship in program history in 2019. Rivers won the 800m title at last year's NCAA Indoor Championships. Along with Rivers, Maddie Holmberg earned a ninth-place finish in the pentathlon at the Indoor Championships in 2019. Holmberg turned in an All-America performance in 2018 in the pentathlon, finishing seventh.
Senior David Lucas returns after his second All-America finish in the weight throw. Lucas placed eighth in 2019 after winning the NCAA National Championship in the event in 2018. Lucas holds the school record in the weight throw of 24.02m.
