UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The first official United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) 2020 Coaches Poll was released on Tuesday and Penn State was picked second as it gets set to open the season this weekend.
The Nittany Lions received four of a possible 18 first-place votes. Defending national champion Virginia sits atop the poll after picking up 12 first-place votes, while last year's runner-up Yale ranks third while garnering two first-place votes.
Penn State, which won the Big Ten regular season and Tournament titles last season before advancing to the NCAA Semifinals, opens the 2020 season at home against Lafayette on Saturday at noon.
Four Big Ten teams appear in the first Coaches Poll as Maryland is No. 4, Johns Hopkins is No. 11 and Ohio State is No. 12. Rutgers and Michigan each received votes.
